NEET Exam 2018

NEET 2018 is a national level medical entrance exam(India) conducted by the CBSE. All Medical Council & Dental Council of India approved medical and dental colleges in India except JIPMER and AIIMS have to accept NEET 2018 rank only for admission. Candidates may please note that there are some changes in the exam this year. So please read this page carefully and also read information brochure before applying.
Central Board of Secondary Education is conducting NEET UG–2018. All medical aspirants must appear in NEET as it is the only medical entrance exam in India apart from JIPMER & AIIMS. The role of CBSE is to conduct of exam and declaration of result. After that, counseling authorities will conduct counseling. All medical and dental colleges in India, that have recognition from Medical Council India/Dental Council India must accept NEET scores only for admission, they cannot hold separate exams.

What’s new in NEET 2018 ?

  • The age limit has been re-introduced. Now upper age limit is 25 years for general(GEN) candidates, and 30 years for SC/ST/OBC candidates. General candidate born between 07-05-1993 and 01-01-2002 and SC/ST/OBC/PWD candidates born between 07-05-1988 and 01-01-2002 are eligible.
  • No attempts limit in NEET 2018. Until last year there was an attempts limit of 3 in NEET. Now the same has been removed. So now candidates do not have to worry how many times they are appearing in National Eligibility cum Entrance Test exam.
  • Open school/private(private board) candidates are not eligible. As per the amendment in Graduate Medical Education Regulations, Candidates who have passed 10+2 from NIOS or State Open School or as a private candidate shall not be eligible to appear for NEET UG-2018. Furthermore, the study of Biotechnology/Biology as an additional subject at 10+2 level also shall not be permissible.
  • Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have joined NEET system. Their 15% all India quota seats are now added for admission through NEET. Therefore candidates belonging to Andhra Pradesh and the Telangana States are also eligible for 15% All India Quota seats now.
  • Ayush admissions(National Institute of Ayurveda: Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha & Homoeopathy) will also be through NEET 2018. Previously the NEET exam was only for MBBS and BDS admissions. But now, Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy admissions will also be conducted on the basis of NEET exam.
  • Urdu has been introduced as a new question paper language. Now the languages in which NEET 2018 question paper will be available are Hindi, English, Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali, Kannada, Oriya, Assamese, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu.
  • Reservation for differently abled candidates increased to 5%. This is in tune with the Rights of Persons with Disability Act, 2016. Previously, the reservation was 3%.
  • The number of test cities has been increased. Last year the exam was held in 103 cities. This year the exam will be held in 150 cities in India.

Candidates can fill NEET 2018 application form at One must retain at least three printouts of the confirmation page, proof of fee payment, 5 copies of passport size photograph (same as the one scanned), 2 postcard size photos (same as in form) after submitting the form.

How to apply?

You can apply/register for NEET 2018 by going through following steps.

1. Fill the online application form. Then note down registration number.
2. Upload photograph as well as signature.
3. Pay application fee in any one mode.
4. Now you can print the confirmation page and fee payment proof.


Application fees:

Photograph, signature specifications:
In the second step of the application form, you will upload scanned copies of passport size photo and signature. Their specifications are as follows.

The photograph should be recent, passport size, with white background. It should have your (candidate’s) name and date of taking photograph. Scan the photograph in high quality and save it as jpeg file. Size of the scanned file should be between 10 kb and 100 kb.

Signature: should also be in jpeg format. Its size should be between 3 kb and 20 kb.

NEET 2018 Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must ensure that they fulfill eligibility criteria of NEET 2018 before applying. Check all criteria of eligibility here.

Educational qualification: You should pass Biology/biotechnology, physics, chemistry, English individually in qualifying exam. Also, you should have at least 50% aggregate in PCB(Physics, chemistry, biology). If you belong to SC/ST/OBC category then minimum marks requirement is 40%. If you belong to UR-PH category then it is 45%. For SC-PH/ST-PH/OBC-PH, minimum marks requirement is 40% only.

The qualifying exams, students of which are eligible for NEET 2018 are mentioned under section 4 – qualifications and qualifying examination codes in NEET 2018 information brochure.

Age limit:
Lower age limit (as on 31 Dec 2018): 17 years.
Upper age limit (as on date of exam): 25 years (5 years relaxation for SC/ST/OBC).


Open school candidates: Candidates who have passed 10+2 from Open Schools or as Private candidates are, unfortunately, not eligible. Also, study of Biology / Biotechnology as an Additional Subject at 10+2 level also shall not be permissible.

Important instruction for candidates from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Jammu and Kashmir

As the States of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have decided to join and contribute their MBBS/BDS seats for the allotment to the candidates under 15% All India Quota from the academic year 2018-19 onward, the candidates belonging to these States shall also be eligible for 15% All India Quota seats.

Forgot password, what to do?

Candidate login page has a link for “forgot password”. Click on that if you have forgotten password. Then you will reach the page to retrieve password through three means. You can either opt to get it through OTP or through security question or the third option is if you have forgotten mobile number and email ID.

If you opt for OTP mode then you enter your registration number, name, DOB.
In the event of choosing a security question, you enter registration number, name, DOB, security question, answer.
If you forgot email ID and number, then you enter registration number, name, DOB, father’s name, mother’s name.


NEET 2018 Syllabus

The syllabus for NEET 2018 is same as last year’s. There are no changes in the syllabus. It comprises of physics, chemistry, biology. Topics and level of units in PCB is same as that taught in classes 11th and 12th in standard boards in India. Nevertheless, to avoid confusion since each board has different syllabi, the official syllabus of NEET 2018 is available.

Dress code for CBSE NEET UG 2018

It is important to know the dress code before going for exam. Some of you may also be travelling to different cities for the exam, so you should know what the dress code is beforehand to pack those clothes only.

In the brochure only CBSE has announced exact dress code for the exam. And going by past year trends, they are quite strictly followed. The reason behind CBSE imposing rules on what to wear and what not to wear for the exam is to avoid cheating cases. Earlier many students used to hide cheating material in their dresses.

Things that you can wear: Slippers and sandals with low heels for footwear; no shoes. Trousers or salwar for lower-body wear. In upper body you can wear half sleeve light clothes without big brooch or badge or button or flower.

Things that you cannot wear: Shoes, sunglasses, full sleeves clothes, watches, bracelets, any sort of jewelry, saree, cap.


NEET 2018 Admit card

The CBSE will issue Admit Cards of NEET (UG) 2018 on the Board’s website at It will most likely have an empty space for the purpose of pasting a Postcard size photograph. You should be able to download the hall ticket by 1st week of April 2018. CBSE does not send any individual intimation or send the admit card by post. However, you may receive an email about Admit Card on the registered email id. Candidates must check their Roll number, name, father’s name, category, sub-category, photograph, signature, date of birth, language of question paper with name and address of examination centre. Inform the board in case of a discrepancy.


NEET Answer Key 2018

After the entrance test, CSBE board shall publish challengeable answer key in codes of A, B, C and D. You will be able to see the images of OMR responses that you had marked in the paper. Candidates noticing error can challenge the answer key with authentic support. You will also get an opportunity to submit representation against the OMR grading as well as answer key. Fee amount for challenging is Rs.1000/- per response. Refund of amount is subject to board accepting challenge.


NEET UG 2018 Result

The Central Board of Secondary Education evaluates the Answer Sheets. Candidates are awarded marks out of 720. Result is hosted on website which will be out in 1st week of June 2018.

Exact date of result declaration will be available later on website. The CBSE will also prepare the merit list/ wait list as directed by DGHS, MCI and DCI. the result will be out in pdf form carrying the names of the candidates who have qualified. There shall be no category wise result sheet.


As the marks are evaluated by OMR reader machine with extreme care, No rechecking is accepted. Your request for revaluation will be rejected.


Candidates must score marks in NEET 2018 equal to or more than cut off, in order to qualify. Only then they are eligible for MBBS/BDS admission. As per MCI / DCI guidelines, candidate must obtain marks equivalent to 50th percentile (or 40th percentile for SC/ST.OBC, and 45th percentile for UR-PH) in NEET 2018 to be considered for admission to MBBS/BDS in that academic session.

NEET 2018 Frequently Asked Questions

CBSE has published answers to most frequently asked questions based on the calls, emails, and grievances received from the aspiring candidates of NEET (UG), 2018.

Qs 1. I have submitted the fee in NEET 2018 application form but my confirmation page has not been generated.

Ans. The generation of confirmation page is linked with payment of fee. If NIC portal did not receive fee then confirmation page will not be generated. If you have paid the fee and confirmation page has not been generated, you are requested to make the efforts to take the print out of your confirmation page in next 24 hours as there could be delay in updation of fees on NIC server from your gateway payment. Fee payment may reflect within 24 hours maximum. Thereafter if your confirmation page still does not generate, pay the fee once again and take the printout of the confirmation page. You will get refund of excess fee in your account.

Qs 2. I have made the double payment, when will I get refund for my additional fee?

Ans. The fee not updated will be refunded to you by your bank/payment gateway within 7 working days in the same account from where the payment has been made. This is as per the bank’s policy.

Qs 3. I have submitted the form of NEET 2018 and now I wish to make the payment of fee. However, the payment of fee i.e. Step 3 page is not available.

Ans. The payment of fee is step 3. You can reach this through candidate’s login after entering User Id and Password which you generated.

Qs 4. I am making payment of fee for NEET 2018 through net banking, however unable to make the payment.

Ans. If payment of fee through net banking is not successful you may use other modes also for making the payment of fee within due period only. Other modes are Debit/Credit Card and e-wallet etc. In any case, you will not be permitted to make the payment after the last date of submission of fee and your candidature without the fee will not be accepted.

Qs 5. In my Aadhaar Card only the name of my mother is mentioned being the ward of single parent. There is no name of my father in my Aadhaar Card.

Ans. Please mention your father’s name as “XXXX”, if the father’s name column is blank in the Aadhaar Card.

Qs 6. When I am submitting my NEET 2018 application form, after some time, my session is expired before submission of online application form. Thus, application remains unfilled/un-submitted.

Ans. The maximum time for submission of application form is 30 minutes. If you are submitting application and taking more than the stipulated time, session will expire. To avoid this situation, you may first submit the one part of application and then save it as draft. In the similar manner you can complete the application form. It is advised that desired information may be kept ready to save the time.

Qs 7. How I will get proof of fee payment to CBSE for NEET UG 2018?

Ans. Once Confirmation page generates, it means you paid the fees. Further, in the confirmation page in lower portion the fee details, transaction made and the transaction id is provided. In addition to above, no separate receipt of payment of fee is provided.

Qs 8. While submitting the application, I have committed mistake by filling my category as UR in place of SC.

Ans. There were clear instructions to submit the details correctly and carefully. However, applicants will get only one opportunity to make the correction in their data from 12/03/2018 to 16/03/2018. Candidates can make correction only during this period. Neither opportunity will be available to the candidates after this schedule and nor will CBSE accept any request on the same. The submission of correct details is the responsibility of the candidate and result will be on basis of the same data and CBSE will not make any change in any manner.

Qs 9. While filling the NEET 2018 application form I have interchanged the parents name i.e. mother name has been mentioned in father’s name and father’s name is mentioned in place of mother’s name.

Qs 10. I have submitted the wrong qualifying code, how to correct it?

Qs 12. I have uploaded the photograph without name and date of taking photograph. What should I do?

Ans. Once you upload the photograph you cannot change anything now. CBSE will accept the photograph without name and date of taking photograph, if otherwise, CBSE finds it correct.

Qs 13. I am a citizen of Nepal, neither I am having Aadhaar number and nor having passport number. How to submit the form?

Ans. Any Govt. Identity Proof will be accepted.

Qs 14. I am not able to upload the photograph and signature after taking the photograph from mobile.

Ans. In such cases, open photograph in photo shop and save it in jpg format and thereafter upload the same on website.

Qs 15. I have passed class XIIth from the National Institute of Open Schooling/State Open School. Now, I have been made ineligible for NEET(UG) 2018, kindly accept my candidature.

Ans. CBSE is responsible for holding the examination. Medical Council of India has provided the eligibility criteria which you can read in the Information Bulletin. Many queries are being received on the eligibility criteria from candidates who have passed from open school, private candidates etc. Such candidates are advised to follow the instructions given by MCI. CBSE has no role to play in it. Therefore no reply to any such query on the eligibility condition will be given by the CBSE. To ensure your eligibility, the simple formula is that you kindly verify your eligibility by ensuring that you must have studied Physics, Chemistry, Biology/BioTechnology with English (Core) continuously for 02 years and must have secured 50% marks individually and otherwise.
